Overview
Dr. Ted Blackmon is a visionary and pioneer of digital delivery for capital projects and asset management. He continues to be a leader in the engineering & construction industry through the development and standardization of the Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) best practice leveraging Digital Twin technologies.
Ted helped to spark the markets for Advanced Work Packaging and Digital Twins in the early 2000 timeframe with the invention and coding of the ConstructSim and OpSim platforms. These revolutionary platforms were based on the commercialization of robotic software technology he developed at NASA in the 1990’s in the areas of 3D Imaging, Augmented Reality and Artificial Intelligence used in part to drive the first rover on Mars.
Dr. Blackmon initially leveraged the NASA mission control robotic technology from Mars Pathfinder for dual use here on Planet Earth to help mitigate the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in 1999. Since then, he has dedicated his professional career in pursuit of connecting the dots between safety, productivity, sustainability and the capital projects industry. Through his stewardship of Jovian Ventures Studio, he is the founder of Construct-X, O3, Work Packs, AWP-U and most recently Optimality.
As a driving force behind Construct-X, Ted joined PTAG as a Partner and Board Member in 2025. He is currently involved in efforts to combine AWP with Lean Construction, Project Production Management and Digital Thread techniques into the next-generation Advanced Project Delivery system for the capital projects industry.
